The revival of the NYAY scheme in Congress’s Kerala manifesto is a welcome step
The Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) has become more relevant since it was first proposed two years back. By resurrecting it in its Kerala manifesto, the Congress has an opportunity to make the idea even more robust.
Even the best policy proposals find it hard to survive an unsuccessful election campaign. So, it was unexpected to see a version of NYAY, the Congress’s flagship 2019 scheme that proposed a monthly transfer of ₹6,000 to households living below the poverty line, resurface prominently in the Congress-led United Democratic Front’s manifesto for the Kerala Assembly election.
Congress leaders take protection while campaining in Pipili after their candidate got infected
BHUBANESWAR: Ajit Mangaraj, the Congress candidate for Pipili byelection, on Saturday said he has tested positive for Covid-19. In a Facebook post, Mangaraj said he is undergoing treatment and urged his followers to work hard and ensure the party’s victory in the bypoll. The Congress candidate also appealed to his supporters to stay united and not fall for rumours.
Mangaraj fell sick while campaigning on Wednesday and have stayed away since then. Senior Congress leaders like AICC secretary Rudra Raju, former state president Jayadev Jena, Chiranjib Biswal, Taraprasad Bahinipati and Suresh Routray took charge of the party’s campaign in Pipili.
